If you watch my Facebook page, you know that I am starting a Gansey sweater project. The patterns are made mostly from the texture that knit and purl stitches make in the fabric. To prepare, I knit this Herring!
It is wonderful! I love the look and feel of it, and chose not to stuff the project since it has such a good floppy fish feel. This test knit told me that the blue was not too dark to show the pattern, and that the size 1 needles were comfortable to knit with for a duration...only a small sample, but it was relaxing and not a struggle.
I used cotton from Purl Soho for the test knit, a little less forgiving that the wool will be. The Gansey 5 ply wool samples are on their way, I am watching the mailbox and getting ready to knit a gauge swatch to see what needles I will need.
I must admit, it is hard not to start another one!!! Maybe I will!
I started the "Tour de Fleece" this week o coincide with the Tour de France... my goal was simple, spin every day. It all starts somewhere. I have this sweet Ashford Joy, that I acquired from a spinner in the UK. We met up at a conference when I was living in Michigan, and she happened to be attending!
This wheel was what I wanted and accompanied her over the ocean from the UK to deliver her to me. I won't be spinning silk embroidery floss, as the previous owner had, but this wheel spins a nice variety! I am glad to have her in my "herd." I will feature the other "gals" as I get them out! The fiber was some unidentified bags from workshops, perfect for a trial run!
How could I resist? Not a difficult bake, but oh so tasty! And it only takes a short time to make! This is one of my favorites to bake, I always have something on hand to make it and the lack of top crust is appealing.
